At 2:42 a.m., police spotted a 2018 Jeep Wrangler that had been stolen from Jersey City last month at a gas station on Route 3, Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller said. When police converged on the stolen car, the driver, a 15-year-old, intentionally rammed two occupied Secaucus police vehicles, injuring one officer, Miller said.
The driver and two passengers fled the scene on foot, Miller said. One of the passengers, a 16-year-old was apprehended while the 15-year-old fled onto Route 3 before he was apprehended, Miller said.
The third suspect entered a marked police vehicle and sped off, Miller said. He was pursued into Jersey City, Kearny and Newark before abandoning the vehicle in Hillside. The suspect remains at large, though the vehicle was recovered, Miller said.
The 15-year-old driver was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, criminal mischief, resisting arrest and conspiracy to commit receiving a stolen vehicle, Miller said. He was remanded to the Morris County Youth Detention Facility, Miller said.
The 16-year-old passenger was charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle, resisting arrest an conspiracy to commit receiving a stolen vehicle, Miller said. He was released to his parents, pending an appearance in family court, Miller said.
